so you've heard about the Beatles Rock Band coming out already (09-09-09). not to mention a new remastered set of ALL Beatle's CD's.
well here's a playlist if you just haven't completely gotten your fill:
(not to mention I also threw in some AWESOME covers. I personally favor The Vines' cover of I'm Only Sleeping).
random facts:
"Strawberry Fields" was named for a real place, Strawberry Field, a children's home run by the Salvation Army in Liverpool. Its location was near John's childhood home. The original Victorian building was too old and was demolished in the late 1960's and some land at the back was sold off to help pay for the new buildings. It's still called "Strawberry Field" and the original walls and gates are there, and it's still a Salvation Army Children's Home. John sent Strawberry Field a large donation before his death and so Strawberry Field named one of it's buildings "Lennon Hall" Yoko still sends donations of cash.
The group's name had numerous inspirations. Stuart Sutcliffe noted that a motorcycle gang in the film, "The Wild One," was called 'The Beetles,' and John Lennon reportedly had a dream in which a man appeared "on a flaming pie," saying, "You will be Beatles with an 'a'." The band members were also influenced by the name of Buddy Holly's band, the Crickets.
Paul McCartney wrote "Hey Jude" for Julian Lennon, John's son.
Though she bought him his first guitar, John's Aunt Mimi discouraged him from a career in music, saying, according to John: "The guitar's all right as a hobby, but it won't earn you any money." Years later, John gave her a silver plaque with that quote engraved upon it.
On December 17, 1963, a disc jockey at WWDC in Washington, D.C., became the first person to broadcast a Beatles record on American airwaves. James Carroll played "I Want To Hold Your Hand," which he had obtained from his stewardess girlfriend who brought the single back from Britain. Due to listener demand, it played daily, every hour. Since it hadn't been released yet in the States, Capitol initially considered court action, but instead released the record earlier than planned.
John Lennon considered his lyrics on "Across The Universe" as one of his bests, if not, his best. He described it as a "piece of poetry that strongly stood alone, without the help of its melody." John had to wake up from his bed to finish the song after its melody kept ringing in his ears.
so you've all probably heard about how big of a douche bag Kanye West is. the video from the VMA's should clearly explain it all to you:
that was literally the best video I could find that didn't include some guy ranting off about Kanye being a gay fish. so please excuse the quality. as least you get the idea.
I honestly don't think it's a big deal. but if you didn't see it and wanted to have your own judgement, this post is for you.
the latest on the Eminem vs. Mariah Carey started with Eminem's track "Bagpipes from Baghdad" on his newest CD, Relapse. in the song Eminem raps, "Mariah whatever happened to us, why did we have to break-up? Nick Cannon, you better back the fuck up, I'm not playing, I want her back, you punk".
in retaliation Mariah slaps down her card, "Obsessed":
I have to admit, the video isn't much to brag about.
Eminem's latest strike back is his song, "Warning". in this he raps, "oh gee, is that supposed to be me in the video with the goatee? wow Mariah, didn't expect ya to go balls out. bitch, shut the fuck up before I put all those phone calls out. when you was wilding out before Nick, when you was on my dick".
clever, I might add.
so far I haven't heard anything more, but I thought this was all rather interesting and thought I'd share it.
let me introduce you to a quirky, fun band: The Aquabats! an energized new wave of ska punk hailing from the California coast, the group is definitely worth giving a listen. they're unlike any other band I've ever heard, sometimes even adding a plot/dialog to their music.
for example, "Hot Summer Nights" is about a guy who has a one night relationship with a girl who has to "move into Alaska". in the song he misses the girl, writing to her, but the idea is that she ditched him, and made up a story of moving to Alaska. he's just a geeky guy who believes her... until he calls and her "friend" picks up.
other songs I've listened to and fell in love with are "Lovers of Loving Love", and "Pool Party."
Many instrumentalists are in the group, including Travis Barker. well, before he joined Blink-182. I heard from a source named Dillon that Aquabats and Blink went on tour, and when Blink kicked their drummer out Travis ditched Aquabats for Blink. interesting.
Rating: Gooood. In short: introducing a quirky new age ska punk genre, The Aquabats! some songs, like "Hot Summer Nights" even have a dialog. unlike anything I've ever heard, The Aquabats! deserve a listen. and maybe even a couple tracks added to your iPod.
a couple of boys from Colorado started up 3OH!3 with the inspiration of the underground hip hop scene. how'd they get the name? it's the area code of the region they lived in, 303. just in case you were wondering.
3OH!3 can be described as hip hop/electronica. if you haven't heard these guys, you're not annoyed by them yet. no, they're great, really, but the fact that the radio and EVERYONE has been over-playing them has been driving the public insane by now probably.
anyway, 3OH!3 is widely known for their hit, "Don't Trust Me". you know, "black dress with the tights underneath..."
other hits include "Holler 'Till You Pass Out", and my personal favorite is "Colorado Sunshine". but of course every band has to have a good "lighter" song, and "Still Around" is 3OH!3's.
with what I can only describe as "strong voices" and mad beats, yo, this band is off the chain. not to mention they're clever lines. here's their outrageous music video for "Don't Trust Me":
looks like on 3OH!3's myspace they also have some songs featering Katy Perry. exclusively on their myspace...http://www.myspace.com/3oh3
Rating: Pretty good.
In short: a great new look at what hip hop and electronica would sound if they had a baby. or two babies, since there's two guys in the group and yeah...
